Students Registration Policy
Entrance Assessments
All students are eligible for admission to Al Shoumoukh International Academy if it is believed that the school can meet their particular needs. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, colour, gender, or national origin and seek to accept all qualified students who apply. Al Shoumoukh International Academy will also comply with regulations for private schools in Qatar and any ministry requirements.
We will carefully consider places for potential candidates. We will aim to make the most appropriate year placement for each student based on a student’s age, as well as, academic, social, and emotional development within the Admission’s Committee guidelines. Each new student may be asked to complete appropriate level assessments. In some instances, students may be asked to return for additional testing or interviewing. Al Shoumoukh International Academy closely observes and monitors the year placement for all new students to ensure that students have been appropriately placed and that year placement complies with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Foundation Stage
The following criteria are considered for successful entrance into the program. Children must be age appropriate for requested year level; be able to separate from their caregiver and demonstrate a readiness to participate in the classroom; be bathroom independent; be able to engage in an activity following direction; and be able to demonstrate fine and gross motor skill development at age appropriate level.
Year 1 to 6
Assessment can be administered for students seeking placement from Year 1 to 6. Reading and Mathematics will be written by every student. If the scores are inconclusive, then additional testing in language competency and/or numeracy competency may be administered. A follow up ELL assessment may be administered if the evaluators have queries in this area.
The school will undertake a document review that includes the applicant’s academic history (previous school records) as well as a confidential letter of recommendation from their current/most recent school.
Al Shoumoukh International Academy will use age guidelines for admission placement in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Regulations.
Al Shoumoukh International Academy looks to attract Qatari students by providing information about the school in Arabic where specific details are required. We also endeavor to uphold values important to the local culture and heritage and demonstrate a respect for these in all we undertake. We will have male and female staff available for inquiries and will consult with our national advisors where there may be queries of a sensitive or cultural nature. Our promotions feature internationalism and we will ensure Arab students are a part of this.
To ensure we meet our vision of ‘high quality outcomes for students’ we must ensure we can support all students to do so. This means that we limit class sizes and the overall number of children in the school. Regretfully, this means that we may not be able to offer places to all applicants.
